About Us

A Local Family Your Family's Comfort, We've Made It Our History Since 1951

Maison Bureau et Bureau has been established in Sherbrooke since 1951. Its name symbolizes above all a family story, its two founders being Mr. Ernest Bureau and his nephew, Mr. Hertel Bureau. The company has grown over the years to ultimately see four generations of the Bureau family flourish. We currently have at least four family members on our team!

Today, a new generation of Bureau members is in place. Our young team is driven by the knowledge accumulated over the past few years and embraces modern practices that meet the expectations and needs of today's families.

Our Family At The Service Of Yours

At Maison Bureau et Bureau, you'll find everything you need to furnish your home. We're proud to offer a variety of furniture that meets your needs, right here in our beautiful Sherbrooke region. Supporting local businesses and the community is important to us.

This is why we prioritize our suppliers from Quebec and Canada who, through their proximity, environmental awareness, social involvement, and flexibility, allow us to make a real difference for our customers. Need custom‑made furniture ? Thanks to our valued partners, anything is possible !

Our Desire To Help In Sherbrooke

We are active in our community through our various social commitments, and we also take part in the business life of Sherbrooke. It’s important for us to take action that makes a difference for local families !

Our Social Involvement Takes Several Forms

  • We support various community organizations in the region.
  • We have donated several pieces of furniture to help welcome refugee families who have settled in Sherbrooke.

Our Involvement In The Business Community Is Also Important To Us

  • We participate in the support committee for self‑employed workers with ProGestion.
  • We are involved with the Young Chamber of Commerce of Sherbrooke. We offer advice to young entrepreneurs and managers of start‑up businesses.
  • 1951

    J. Ernest Bureau, with 26 years of experience in the furniture field, partners with his nephew Hertel Bureau, a miller by trade, to become co-owners of a furniture store located at 385 Alexandre Street. A partnership that still has repercussions to this day. The beginnings were modest: 2,400 square feet on two floors and only two employees – Ernest and Hertel!

  • 1960

Through a series of renovations, the floor area increases to 10,000 square feet and seven people now work there. A reputation for choice, quality, and affordable prices gradually spreads among the public. Customers would choose their furniture, appliances, electronics, and flooring there.

  • 1967

To offer the best possible prices to its customers, Bureau et Bureau joins a purchasing group of 78 retailers under the Meubles Prestige banner, later renamed Sélection, owned by the Cantrex Group. From 1979 to 1996, Marc Bureau chairs the Cantrex Group. This group’s mission is to increase the purchasing power of participating retailers and to broaden and share their knowledge.

  • 1969

The business becomes increasingly family-run as Guy and Roger Bureau, Hertel’s sons, become shareholders in the company. Hertel thus passes the torch to the next generation.

  • 1970

Another member of the Bureau family joins the company: Bertrand. Like those before him, he holds various positions, from deliveryman to salesperson. Gradually, he learns the inner workings of the business and benefits from the experience of his predecessors.

  • 1973

Victim of its own success, Bureau et Bureau outgrows its Alexandre Street location and decides to relocate to Galt Street, in a brand-new building offering 37,000 square feet, part of which is leased to the National Bank. This move allows the company to enjoy a large showroom. It’s the time of major decisions: to offer even more choices and to reaffirm its policy of personalized customer service, still in effect today.

  • 1984

To broaden its clientele, Bureau et Bureau introduces the Kit-Atout Furniture line, aimed at young adults with modest means but good taste. Luc Bureau, a newcomer to the business, oversees this new division. At the same time, Bureau et Bureau withdraws from the flooring market.

  • 1987

The latest addition to the family, Luc Bureau, Marc’s son, becomes a shareholder in the company. The Bureau family never loses sight of what has ensured its reputation: innovation, forward-thinking, entrepreneurship, quality merchandise, and above all, attentive customer service.

  • 1989

Marc leaves the company to focus on the development of the Cantrex Group and sells his shares to the other shareholders: Roger, Guy, and Luc.

  • 1993

The arrival of big-box stores in Sherbrooke forces Bureau et Bureau to redefine its priorities and strengths: customizable furniture—offering the “ideal” piece for every client. Every effort is made with suppliers to diversify and expand available inventory. It’s time to excel at what has built Bureau et Bureau’s reputation. The team focuses on attentive customer service and impeccable quality, concentrating on furniture—the very heart of the business.

  • 2001

In the summer of 2000, expansion work begins, increasing the available space to 50,000 square feet by reclaiming the areas previously occupied by the National Bank and the company’s warehouse. The business evolves not only physically but also strategically, adopting the Idem and Tendances banners. These changes allow the store to offer a wide selection of products for clients of all ages and tastes.

  • 2014

The fourth generation takes over! Benjamin Bureau becomes General Manager and begins updating the store’s image. Meubles Bureau et Bureau becomes Maison Bureau et Bureau. The product selection is renewed and the company’s logo is modernized.

  • 2015

Jérôme Bureau, Benjamin’s brother, joins the company. Together, they become the owners of Maison Bureau et Bureau.
